Strange, strange, interesting archive of old ITV Schools Progs information on ITV Schools programmes. Not very accurate - Middle English developed from Writers' Workshop, and ran alongside The English Programme - not a late addition. Wednesday, January 29
Does this picture bring to mind Winnie the Pooh, tight places, and useful towel racks, or does it just look like J's new scooter being put to good use while stuck in the hall? I hope any passing members of the Middle English Dream Team of the early 1980s who happen to pass this way will appreciate this rather surreal reminder of the Toucan. Monday, January 27
This is my Narnia picture of Froebel College in the snow (I know it is the wrong kind of lamp post). Have been thinking about the parallels between web logs and the original Mass Observation 'social research' diaries kept by volunteers for 'Mass Observation' in the 1930s and 1940s. I first came across these in 'London Under Fire' by Leonard Mosley (originally published 1971 by Weidenfeld as 'Backs to the Wall') which has an appendix from Tom Harrisson (his 'Living Through the Blitz' is more widely referred to and presumably contains some of the same material). See also article by Dorothy Sheridan. My favourite commentaries are some of those from pacifist Peter Donald on life in his South London digs. Wonderful pictures of Harrisson, Jennings & Madge . I have tracked down a few examples of research weblogs. jill.txt has a list of research blogs and includes a paper by Jill Walker with Torill Mortensen: Blogging Thoughts: Personal Publication as an Online Research Tool. There is also Kevin Brehony's 'research journal with a focus on history and sociology of education'. Weblogs.com has a history of weblogs. Finally, a rather nice definition of a research blogger . Just come across University of Nigmeyen site 'History of Education and Childhood' - some interesting looking links, though this part of the site no longer maintained. |
